History

115 years of industrial tradition
Shaumyan Plant is one of Russia's oldest lubricant manufacturers. In 1910, the Russian Joint-Stock Company Vacuum Oil opened in St Petersburg as a branch of the well-known American Vacuum Oil Company. The plant was first located on Salova Street and made lubricants under the Gargoyle trademark.
The second period began after 1917. Like all pre-revolutionary factories in the city, the plant became a state enterprise. After reconstruction, in 1929 it was named after Stepan Shaumyan, a well-known revolutionary and political figure.
During the Second World War, Shaumyan Plant never stopped working. It supplied lubricants to the besieged city of Leningrad and to the front. Production stopped only to repair bomb damage.
After the war, the plant was rebuilt and modernised. In 1954, it opened an experimental workshop to develop new oils and greases and bring them into production. The plant was renamed the Leningrad Experimental Oil Plant named after Shaumyan (LONMZ). It became one of the country's largest pilot production plants for lubricants. In this period, the team developed and launched dozens of new products and improved production processes.
LONMZ developed new formulations of mineral and synthetic oils, greases and special fluids for many industries and types of equipment. It also started producing additives and new petrochemical products. One of its best-known products is Neva brake fluid.

In 1993, Shaumyan Plant became a joint-stock company. The third, modern period began on 15 March 2001, when Shaumyan Production LLC was founded. The new company kept and developed its Soviet-era heritage: production facilities, a research department, a laboratory and qualified staff. In 2010, it moved to a new site with its own railway sidings in the Rybatskoye district of St Petersburg.
Today, the plant looks to the future with confidence. Its knowledge, experience, production facilities, infrastructure, own laboratory and strong team allow it to make its traditional high-quality products for regular customers and to enter new markets. In 2021, the plant launched the new ALPHA OIL lubricant range.
